Peanut is common in our daily life. We have seen many kinds of peanut products in the market. Here I will make a conclusion for the application of peanuts including peanuts in the shell, peanut kernel(or shelled peanut with skin) and peanut shells, blanched peanuts (or shelled peanut without skin) and peanut skins.
Peanuts in the shell are common. Uses of them are simple. In general, they are roasted, salted or boiled( the raw, unshelled green peanut ) and they are often eaten as a snack. More recently, fried peanut recipes have emerged – allowing both shell and nut to be eaten.
When peanuts are shelled by the peanut shelling machine, we can get the peanut kernels and peanut shells. The application of shelled peanut with skin is not strange to us. They can be eaten raw, used in recipes, made into solvents and peanut oils, flour, medicines, textile materials, peanut butter and the countless cosmetics, as well as many other uses. Popular confections made from peanuts include salted peanuts, peanut butter, peanut brittle, and plain or roasted shelled nuts. Salted peanuts are usually roasted in oil and packed in retail-size plastic bags or hermetically sealed cans. Dry roasted salted peanuts are also marketed in significant quantities. Peanuts are often a major ingredient in mixed nuts because of their relative cost compared to cashews, walnuts, almond and so on. Peanut butter is mainly used in the home, large quantities are also used in the commercial manufacture of sandwiches, candy, and bakery products.
What about useful ways of peanut shells? Peanut shells are used in the manufacture of soap, cosmetics, wallboard, plastics, and linoleum, among other things. Nowadays, peanut shells are processed by wood pellet mill into wood pellets used as a biomass fuel to heat houses, apartments and so on. The recent study shows that peanut shells are safe to eat for they are a good source of fiber.
The next comes to shelled peanut without skin. When peanut kernels are peeled by the peanut peeling machine, we get the shelled peanuts without skin and peanut skins. Shelled peanuts without skin are usually made into peanut butter, peanut oil, salted blanched peanut or roasted blanched peanut. On the other side, peanut skins can be traditionally processed by the feed pellet mill into animal feed. Now that is changing. Peanut skins contain up to 17 percent oil and contain fatty acids which, if extracted, can be valuable for nutrition and cosmetic firms.
